Mixed/Intercultural Marriage

Today I came across an article that totally took my by surprise! It was an article about a Georgia School having its first EVER Mixed Prom!! I was so shocked and surprised to find out that White people and Black people were made to have their own prom and this year they convinced the school board to allow a mixed prom.

While reading this article it really made me think about my own Intercultural Relationship and how we were once criticized for a mixed relationship. One incident I can remember was a few years back, we had just moved to a new area and there were not many Indians (a predominantly white community) and my husband, myself and my in-laws were all walking downtown and I was stopped by a lady and asked why I was married to Him (an Indian) and I was so taken back by this that I honestly did not know what to say for a few seconds and then I remember saying because I Love Him and that's the reason why I am with Him.

I guess, I find it so hard to really understand why people are so opposed to mixed relationships. Yes there are a lot of cultural differences (especially in an Indian relationship) but I feel that as long as there is love and the ability to compromise with one another and work together as a team you can make any relationship work!

A lot of people ask me how it is being married to an Indian and I always tell them it is like any other marriage "you make it work"...(lol) no, but seriously, yes, we do have our disagreements, but honestly we agree on the things that matter most! Yes, I do sometimes feel overwhelmed by all the Indian cultures "Do's and Dont's" but I wouldn't have it any other way. I have truly found the Man who makes me a better person and I love him more and more each day!!!
