Indian Spiced Beans

Hello Everyone! Here is one of my very first Indian dishes that I learned how to make via my husband! When I met my husband I really did not know much about Indian cooking (or any cooking) so he taught me the basics of some of the dishes and I have Americanized those dishes to our taste.

This is really one of my go to recipes because not only is it cheap but it takes very little time to make and it is super duper easy and very tasty! Here is the list of ingredients you will need.

1 can of beans (kidney or pinto)
1/2 red onion
1 inch of fresh ginger
3 gloves or garlic (I love garlic so you can use less)
1 Serrano or jalapeno pepper (I keep seeds and ribs because we like heat)
2 tablespoons of tomato puree
Cumin, Turmeric, Chili Powder, Salt, Garam Masala

Step 1: Chop onion, garlic, ginger and pepper together (I usually let my blender do all the work) If you chop try to go as small as possible and then grate the garlic and ginger (you don't want large chunks).

Step 2: Saute them together until they are soft and really tender then add the tomato puree and let it cook for a few minutes until the tomato is cooked out.

Step 3: Add all the spices...I usually add a tablespoon of cumin and garam masla and then a 1/2 tablespoon of turmeric & chili powder (salt to taste). Let them cook for a minute or so (you will see them start to really come together).

Step 3: Add the can of beans and the juice in the can! Stir everything together and let cook for about 3-4 minutes bring to a boil and then turn on low heat...at this point you should see that the juice is getting low so I add about 1/2 cup - 1 cup of water depending on how much juice you want. Let it cook on low for about 5 minutes and you are pretty much done.

This should be the end result! Yummy Indian/Americanized Beans!

Serve this with White Rice or Chapati (Homemade Indian Bread) and your family will love you! This should serve roughly 4 people.
